For the Blu-Ray release of Utena in early 2013, the studio put together a touring exhibit of artwork that was retained from filming & released a two book set of all cels, sketches, backgrounds, etc. that toured in the exhibit from the show & the movie plus some of the nicer ones that were hanging around in the vaults. The studio still had all the nicest cels from the OP & first Ending of Utena & I suspect that they were able to retain the majority of the OP/ED1 cels since there has been neither hide nor hair of anything even related to either one of these sequences that I have seen for sale or in private collections.

It was really nice to see some high quality scans of stuff that you'd normally never see, although I did see several of the cels on this list in the booklet, meaning that they will probably never be for sale. I will notate them with the tag *Retained by studio* where I have confirmation from the books that a majority of the sequence or the exact cel is still tucked away safely by the studio.

I just want to qualify this list with the fact that I'm just going to go ahead and dream huge here. Most likely, I will feel privileged to even see most of these cels, much less own any of them. That being said, on with the wishing. :)
